Purchasing RSA licenses for PGP directly from RSA? Nope
I spoke with Brian Spector of RSA DSI this morning on the possibility of
negotiating directly with RSA to obtain license to use their algorithm in the
PGP toolkit. His response was very categorical: no way would RSA management
consent to such an arrangement. According to him, NAI/PGP has become an
"emotional thing" for them. He was confident they would never consent to
softening their stance on the use of RSA in PGP.
He was interested in exploring (yet again) the possibility of providing us with
S/MIME. He wanted to provide us with some solution that would "alleviate our
pain." I or someone from our group may want to pursue this. (He remembered
talking with folks from our group earlier when we were looking for
alterenatives.)
So, that's it for PGP using RSA. Aside from the fact that Brian Spector feels
our pain, it's no dice.
